How to be prepared in case of an emergency?

The following are general recommendations for how to be prepared in case of an emergency with your pet.

  • Keep several phone numbers conveniently located.  These include:
    • Your regular veterinarian
    • Your preferred emergency service
    • Animal poison control number (888) 426-4435
  • Become familiar with the location of your local emergency clinic.
  • Have a pet carrier available for transport of your pet to the emergency services
  • Avoid prolonged periods of activity during extremely hot days.
  • Make sure your pet has access to plenty of water at all times
  • Keep you pet under complete control when outside and not confined within a fenced area.
  • Keep a muzzle for your pet available in case your pet is injured and in significant pain.  You can ask your regular veterinarian about how to properly apply a muzzle to your pet.
  • Keep all medications out of reach of you pets
