Dr. Julie Buford

Dr. Julie Buford grew up in Grant, Alabama, and is happy to call Nashville her home.  She graduated from the University of Alabama with a Bachelor of Science in Biology with Minors in Liberal Arts and Spanish.  Dr. Buford then attended Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine, graduating in 2008.  The following year, she completed a rotating veterinary internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Red Bank Veterinary Hospital in Tinton Falls, New Jersey.

Dr. Buford began working with the emergency service at NVS part time in 2011, then became full time in 2017.  Prior to joining NVS, Dr. Buford worked as a general small animal veterinarian and medical director in the Nashville area.  Her areas of interest include surgery, dentistry, emergency medicine, business management, women’s veterinary leadership development and mentoring.  Dr. Buford is Fear Free Certified, a member of the Tennessee Veterinary Medical Association Emerging Leaders and is on the scholarship review committee for the American Veterinary Medical Foundation.  Dr. Buford has volunteered with the Humane Society Rural Veterinary Services in Mexico, and is a member of  professional organizations TVMA, AAHA, AVMA.

Outside of veterinary medicine, Dr. Buford shares her home with her husband, Adam, two children, Beatrice and Arthur, and furry family members, Albert, Truman and Scout.  Dr. Buford enjoys traveling, reading, practicing yoga, listening to her husband play guitar, watching college football and chasing after her kids.
