Dr. Trey Calfee is a native of Cleveland, Tennessee where he grew up working on his family’s dairy farm. Dr. Calfee attended the University of Tennessee, Knoxville where he completed his Bachelor of Science in Biology (1993) and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (1998). Immediately following vet school, Dr. Calfee worked for one year as an intern at Angell Memorial Animal Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. After a year in Boston, Dr. Calfee moved to Blacksburg, Virginia where he completed a three-year small animal surgical residency and his Master of Science (2002) at the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine (Virginia Tech). Following the completion of his residency, Dr. Calfee moved to Colorado for a one-year fellowship in small animal surgical oncology at Colorado State University’s Animal Cancer Center (2003).

Dr. Calfee is board certified in veterinary surgery and is a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. Prior to moving back home to Tennessee in 2006 with his wife, three dogs (photos of all are on the NVS website), and three cats, Dr. Calfee was employed at Carolina Veterinary Specialists in Charlotte, North Carolina as a small animal surgeon.
