Heath McAlexander

Dr. Heath McAlexander is a residency-trained small animal surgeon originally from Huntingdon, Tennessee. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from the University of Tennessee at Martin before completing his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine.

Following veterinary school, Dr. McAlexander completed a rotating internship at BluePearl Veterinary Partners in Tampa, Florida, then pursued a surgical internship and a small animal surgery residency at Texas A&M University. During his residency, he was honored with the William and Denise Liska Award for Veterinary Surgery Excellence. His special interests include minimally invasive surgery, particularly arthroscopy, laparoscopy, and thoracoscopy.

Outside the hospital, Dr. McAlexander enjoys cheering on the Tennessee Volunteers, exploring the outdoors, discovering new craft beers, tending to his houseplants, and writing and performing music. He lives in Nashville with his Australian Shepherd, Rusty, and his two cats, Fish and Ted.
