Rachel Humke
Diplomate American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Neurology)
Dr. Rachael Humke earned her Bachelor of Science from Duke University, graduating magna cum laude in 2016. She went on to complete her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at The Ohio State University in 2020, where she received the Excellence in Neurology Award. Following veterinary school, Dr. Humke completed a rotating internship at the University of Missouri, a specialty neurology internship at Massachusetts Veterinary Referral Hospital, and a neurology residency at the Veterinary Neurological Center in Phoenix, Arizona.
Drawn to veterinary medicine by her love of animals and science, Dr. Humke enjoys the challenge of diagnosing patients who cannot verbally express what’s wrong. She was particularly inspired to pursue neurology because of the pivotal role of the neurologic exam in reaching a diagnosis; each case offering a unique puzzle that begins with accurate neuroanatomic localization.
Dr. Humke’s clinical interests include neurosurgery, such as spinal stabilization procedures for Wobbler’s disease and fracture repair, as well as medical neurology with a focus on autoimmune conditions. She also plans to pursue her neurosurgery certificate and expand her surgical expertise to include advanced stabilization procedures such as atlantoaxial (A/A) and lumbosacral (LS) stabilization.
Outside of work, Dr. Humke enjoys watching college sports (Go Devils!), and spending time outdoors hiking. She and her husband, Dylan, love exploring new breweries and restaurants on the weekends. At home, they share their lives with their cat, Calliope.
